MCP server for AI assistants

The Jobs API has an official remote Model Context Protocol server. It lets AI assistants and agents search jobs in Canada and the United States with your API key. Calls use your plan the same way as /v1 requests.

Tools

  • search_jobs: search active jobs by keywords, title, province or state, city, remote, pay, employment type, hiring system and date. Returns up to 25 compact jobs and a cursor. Same filters as Search jobs.
  • get_job: the full posting for one job id. Same as Get a job.
  • job_stats: active job counts per hiring system and region. Same as Stats.

Claude Code

bash
claude mcp add --transport http thejobsapi https://api.thejobsapi.com/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer tja_live_..."

Claude Desktop, Cursor and other clients

Add a remote server with the URL above and an Authorization header. For clients that only start local servers, use the mcp-remote bridge:

json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "thejobsapi": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "mcp-remote",
        "https://api.thejobsapi.com/mcp",
        "--header",
        "Authorization:Bearer ${THEJOBSAPI_KEY}"
      ],
      "env": {
        "THEJOBSAPI_KEY": "tja_live_..."
      }
    }
  }
}

Test it with curl

bash
curl -s https://api.thejobsapi.com/mcp -H "Authorization: Bearer tja_live_..." -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"tools/call","params":{"name":"search_jobs","arguments":{"country":"CA","title":"nurse","city":"Toronto","limit":3}}}'

Good to know

  • The server is stateless and answers with JSON (Streamable HTTP). It does not open a server event stream.
  • Keep your key private. Use a separate key for each assistant so you can revoke one on the API keys page.
  • No key yet? The free trial includes 500 jobs and 50 requests for 7 days, with no card.
