The short answer
Salary data in job posts comes from the employer. When the employer lists a pay range or an hourly rate, The Jobs API returns it exactly as stated. When they do not, the salary field is empty. We never guess pay.
Why do more job posts show pay now?
Some places now have laws that ask employers to show a pay range in job posts. Examples include British Columbia, Ontario and US states such as California, Colorado, New York and Washington. Rules differ by place.
Why do some posts still have no pay?
Not every place has a pay law, and not every employer shares pay. Some put it only in the description text.
How does the API show pay?
- A single amount, or a low and high number for a range
- The currency, like CAD or USD
- How often it is paid: hour, week, month or year
- An hourly wage stays hourly. We do not turn it into a yearly number.
Can I filter for jobs with pay?
Yes. You can ask for only the jobs where the employer listed pay.
Questions people ask
Do you estimate salaries?
No. Estimates can be wrong. If you add your own estimates, keep them separate from what the employer said.
