Job data or people data?
What job postings APIs give you, what people and company data providers give you, and how to choose between them.
Updated
The short answer
A job postings API gives you the jobs companies are hiring for: title, place, full description, pay when published and the apply link. People and company data providers, such as Coresignal, People Data Labs, Crustdata and Apollo, give you profiles of people and companies, sometimes with hiring signals. If your product shows or analyses jobs, you need job data. If it finds or enriches contacts, you need people data.
What each one is for
| Job postings API | People and company data | |
|---|---|---|
| Main record | A job post | A person or a company |
| Typical use | Job boards, job search, alerts, AI career tools, hiring research | Sales prospecting, CRM enrichment, recruiting outreach |
| Hiring signal | Every open job, in full | A count or flag that a company is hiring |
| Privacy load | Job posts are published by employers to be read | Personal data needs extra care and legal checks |
Can job data replace people data?
For hiring signals, often yes: open jobs show which teams are growing, where, and with which skills. The Jobs API also adds company profiles and how fast each company is hiring. It does not give you contact details for people.
