Canadian job data APIs.
The ways to get Canadian job postings as data: employer-direct APIs, global providers, open data and publisher APIs, and what each one covers.
Updated
The short answer
For live Canadian job postings from employers, including French posts from Quebec and New Brunswick, use an API that collects from Canadian employer career sites, such as The Jobs API. Global providers include Canada, but often through job boards like Indeed and LinkedIn. Free monthly open data exists for research, but it is not live.
Why Canada is different
- Many jobs are posted in French, especially in Quebec and New Brunswick.
- Public employers such as hospitals, school boards, cities and provinces use their own hiring systems.
- Place names repeat across countries: London, Ontario is not London, England, and “CA” can mean California.
- Global providers often weight their coverage toward the US and Europe.
Your options
| Option | What you get | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| The Jobs API | Live jobs from Canadian employer career sites, English and French, every province and territory | Apps, job boards and alerts |
| Global job APIs | Canada as one of many countries; often a large share from job boards | Multi-country products |
| Labour market analytics | Statistics, skills and occupation coding | Research and policy |
| Open data files | Free monthly files | Research that does not need live jobs |
How we check a job is in Canada
We use the location the employer published. A bare city name that exists in more than one country is not enough, and we never read “CA” as Canada. Province and city filters work with English or French names.
